Introduction to Teaching

Overview

The aim of this workshop is to expose participants to the fundamental aspects of the craft of teaching and to explore the many challenges our teachers face in and out of the classroom by using new tools.... tools of the heart!

The workshop is designed for the beginning teacher and therefore assumes that the participant has had little experience teaching. However, this workshop will also be of benefit to more experienced teachers as it may have the effect of helping them reconnect with the foundational principles and practices of teaching thus providing a refreshing focus for continued service.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify, discuss and implement the Teaching Cycle
  • Develop a greater appreciation for different learning styles among students
  • Effectively use instructional/learning objectives in lesson planning and delivery
  • Practice reflective and effective teaching
