UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Ltd. (UWI-ROYTEC) and the Trinidad & Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA) are pleased to announce the renewal of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the period September 20th 2023 to September 19th 2025.

Through this Memorandum of Understanding, UWI-ROYTEC and the TTMA collaborates to offer the Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Toolkit to the TTMA's membership, the local manufacturing sector, the general Trinidad & Tobago public and the Caribbean region. The overarching goal of the SME Toolkit is to make available much needed technical training that will lead to increased productivity, efficiency and profitability of local and regional SMEs.

The objectives of the SME Toolkit Training Programme are as follows:

  1. Increasing the competitiveness of SMEs through training and applied studies;
  2. Identifying the unique problems and challenges of SMEs locally and crafting creative and relevant solutions;
  3. Ensuring the export readiness of SMEs.

Since the beginning of this partnership in 2019, approximately 300 persons and companies have benefitted from training in the areas of:

  1. Strategic Business Management
  2. Business Development Strategies
  3. Customer Relationship Management Sales Generation for SMEs
  4. Quality Management
  5. Production Management
  6. Resource and Operations Management
  7. Innovation & New Product Development
  8. Information & Communications Technology Management
  9. People Management
  10. Financial Management
  11. Export Management
  12. Cost Accounting
     

At the signing ceremony on the 16th January 2024, Dr. Mahindra Ramdeen, CEO of the TTMA articulated the importance of the partnership to the continued development and growth of the local manufacturing sector primarily non-energy sectors. This training will allow our local labor force to compete on a regional level. 

Ms. Wendy Augustus, Executive Director- UWI-ROYTEC, explained that the SME Toolkit partnership has played and continues to play a pivotal role in UWI-ROYTEC fulfilling its strategic mandate to expand its Corporate Training Programmes to build human capital both locally and regionally.
