Credo: Sophia House

Sophia House serves as an empowerment centre and safe haven for young at risk girls residing in Trinidad. This institution, which is located at 2-4 Park Street, Port of Spain, currently houses girls under the age of 18 years, who have been assigned to the home from either the Trinidad and Tobago Courts or the Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago. The Foundation aims to provide economic alternatives to life on the streets, with programmes designed to facilitate education, training and all round development. The long term goal is to facilitate rehabilitation and family reintegration where possible.

UWI-ROYTEC & its Alumni Association (URAA) undertook its first civic project with Sophia House in 2016, where alumni members volunteered their time and provided institutional resources to the Foundation. This relationship continues to grow and expand.

Named after world renowned Pan Africanist from East Port of Spain; Kwame Ture, the Centre focusses on educating the community on self-improvement as the basis for community development through education, entrepreneurship, arts, culture, youth development and agriculture. Both institutions share a similar vision for developing the human resource capital of the communities we serve through access to education.
