Q: What are the different online services for?

A: There are three separate online services available:

• Student Administration:
  The Online Student Administration System (Banner), is the system used for student administration such as registering for classes and viewing examination grades.
  
• Microsoft 365:
  Microsoft 365 is the platform used for email services, provision of general institutional resources via the Student Resource Centre (SRC) and online collaboration with Teams.
• Canvas:
  Canvas is the platform used for online learning and access to class-related materials. Links to online class sessions where applicable are made available within the associated Canvas course.

Q: How do I sign in?

A: The procedure is slightly different for each system, so note the following carefully:

Student Administration (Banner)

You sign in using your student ID number as your User ID. Your default PIN is your date of birth in the format MMDDYY. Note the format of month first and only two (2) digits for the year.

Note that you will be asked to change this PIN and set a security question and answer upon your first sign-in.

Microsoft 365

You sign in using your student email address, which is in the format This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

• Associate Degree and Diploma students with a start date prior to May 2023:
  • Your default password is your date of birth in the format MMDDYYYY (month first, four digits for year).
• All other students:
  • Your default password is uppercase "R" followed by your date of birth in the format MMDDYYYY (month first, four digits for year) and then an exclamation mark.

Canvas

Canvas uses Microsoft 365 for signing in. Your Canvas sign-in credentials are your Microsoft 365 account as outlined above.

Q: I forgot my password or I was locked out of my account. How do I regain access?

A: If you have forgotten your password, the first step is to use the built-in password recovery mechanisms of the email or Banner systems as applicable:

• For Microsoft 365, you can use a recovery email address or other mechanism provided by Microsoft.
• For Banner, you should enter your User ID and then click the Forgot PIN button instead of Login. You will be prompted to answer the recovery questions set in your profile.

We strongly encourage use of these password recovery options prior to contacting UWI-ROYTEC. They will allow you to immediately regain access to your account instead of awaiting a response from us.

Note that you should not attempt more than two (2) failed sign-in attempts to Banner before using the recovery process. A third failed attempt will result in the account becoming locked out and you will need to contact us.

Q: Can I change my default password for Microsoft 365?

A: Yes, please follow the below steps:

1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 using the link provided on this page
2. Click the icon located in the top right-hand corner after signing in: This may appear as your initials, or a display image if you have set one
3. Click on "My Account" from the panel that appears
4. Select "Security and Privacy" from the available options
5. Click on "Password" and follow the instructions provided
