UWI-ROYEC in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association of Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to present: Communicating with and Caring for Persons with Alzheimer's and other Dementias.

This one-day skills building workshop is designed to enhance participants' knowledge about types and impact of dementia, specifically Alzheimer's disease. Topics include:
- Types of dementia;
- Ten warning signs of dementia;
- Stages of progression associated with Alzheimer's Disease; and
- Strategies for communicating and providing physical, emotional, and medical care for persons with dementia.
After attending this workshop, participants should have the knowledge and understanding to use various strategies to better care for and communicate with people with dementia, specifically Alzheimer's disease.
Meet the Facilitator:
Joyanne De Four-Babb
Dr. Joyanne De Four-Babb, is a life-long educator, who currently serves as an independent service provider in the post of Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Belize. In 2006, Joyanne joined the Alzheimer's Association of Trinidad and Tobago (AzATT) and is a lifetime member of that association. She served on the AzATT board, between 2006 and 2011 as Vice-Chair. During that time she represented the AZATT at several ADI conferences and co-authored and presented a paper at ADI Toronto in 2011. Joyanne also served on the AzATT board between 2016 and 2018. She was the co-chair of the 4th Alzheimer's Disease International Non-Latin Caribbean Regional Conference On Alzheimer's & Other Dementias (8th to 10th June 2017).
Joyanne continues to work to raise awareness about Alzheimer's Disease. Through her work, she honours the legacy of her mom, Mrs. Phyllis De Four, who was a person with Alzheimer’s disease for the last 12 years of her life. Joyanne draws upon her own experiences and her experience as an educator, to design and conduct talks, seminars and workshops targeted at various audiences and organisations. This has included appearances on television, radio, high school classrooms, university classrooms, Lions clubs, Rotary clubs, and local and international conferences. Joyanne also attended the Alzheimer's Disease International Advocacy Alzheimer University in London (9 & 10 May 2018). In Belize, Joyanne has worked alongside the Outreach Committee of the St. Ann's Anglican Church, in partnership with the National Council on Ageing Belize to host both face-to-face and online seminars to help raise awareness about dementia in Belize.
